Adventures

Being together and experiencing new or familiar things is our therapy. In a great big and sometimes divided world, we believe that travel opens your heart, and broadens your mind to people and cultures. The lessons learned from travel and adventures- pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, enjoying experiences over things, never taking nature for granted, learning, being spontaneous, and being humbled and awed- these invaluable lessons are gifts to ourselves.

We try to make at least one camping trip a year, sometimes two. When I was a teen I used to camp with some friends in Western Pennsylvania. However, as for our families, camping wasn't something we would ever consider. Knowing that we wanted to take adventures, we put camping gear on our wedding registry. A gifted 4-person tent with two camping chairs was the start of it all! The best thing about camping is waking up in the middle of the night to the sounds and smells of summer rain, then drifting back to sleep to nature’s soundtrack.

It was the first vacation at our one-year anniversary that we decided to take a two-week vacation driving around northern New England. It was truly an amazing experience to chart a general path through six states, but not have too many details laid out every day. This gave us the opportunity to find many unexpected things along the way to our intended evening destination. We were so delighted to find a new hiking trail, a spectacular view, and a unique spot to have lunch. We were amazed at all of the fun and informative historical places along our route.

The best thing about traveling is experiencing the culture and activities of the places visited. But who says you can only have adventures outside your hometown? We are always game for exploring and trying new things. One such bold outing was with Henry’s Cub Scout troop experiencing indoor skydiving with iFLY! We are NOT adrenaline junkies! This was somewhat out of our comfort zone. But you only live once, right? OH. MY. GOODNESS! This was the most daring thrill that we have ever experienced! Though Henry wasn’t keen and didn’t try it, Chris and I are absolutely hooked!
